Merry Christmas

Its Christmas eve and I realized just a little while ago that I have not played one christmas tune this year!! So, I just finished listening to the Christmas cd that Steve made for me when I still lived in the nursing home. Its been a tradition to break it out and listen to it every Christmas, but this year I all most killed my own tradition!! Not good! Anyway.... :)

Tonight Steve, the furkids and I will have our christmas together because Steve goes to Delaware tomorrow. Joke - What did Della wear? Answer - her new jersey. :) Sorry, couldn't resist. Steve told me that joke the other day. It was humorous at the time as it came out of nowhere and so unexpected! :) Where was I? Oh, yea...so we will have our Christmas together tonight and tomorrow I am going to my sister's. She is having dinner there and my brother is coming with his wife and kids. I'm looking forward to seeing everybody! :)

Merry Christmas!!

Steve's Mom is here

Steve's Mom has been visiting us since Wednesday night and she will be on her way home back to Delaware in the morning. The visit was great, but always goes too fast. :( Friday and Saturday we spent some time shopping, we put up the Christmas tree, decorated the living room and she served us home cooked meals every evening, which is a rarity around here. :)

After Christmas Steve will be going to the East Coast to see his Mom again and the rest of his family in New Jersey and friends in Pennsylvania. He especially looks forward to seeing his nieces and nephew, who range from the ages of 13 down to 9. He is a big kid himself so its fun for all! :)

I finished one week of training and have a week to go. I know I'm repeating myself, but I can't wait to start! I start working on the 27th. Woot! :) I have been practicing and role playing this weekend hoping to get the scripting down. :)

Well, have a great weekend and I'll write more this week!

Eventful weekend

I had a fun filled Saturday and spent today relaxing and catching up on much needed sleep!

Yesterday my aunt, her friend (AKA Moose) and I went to visit Paul and Ranola, who are good friends with my aunt. Actually Paul and his first wife (forget her name) used to be good friends with my grandma and grandpa before my grandparents divorced. That was 50 plus years ago.. since then my grandparents have both passed away, Paul's wife passed away, he met a nice lady namee Ranola, they got married and my aunt keeps in touch with them on a regular basis. :) He is 93 yrs old (looks 70) and is as sharp as a tack! His wife is 70 and a hostess with the mostest. :) She and him built two pizzas from scratch that were 3" thick stuffed with sausage, green peppers, banana peppers, onions and pepperoni. Yummers! :) They live in a cute A frame house right on Lake Loramie, which is right out their back door! The lake is covered by snow and ice right now, but they invited me back to visit in the summer!

That evening I went with Steve to a gig in Piqua. I had never been to this bar before, but it was an all right bar. My nursing assistant met me up there and that is when the fun began. :) It was a late night...

Christmas shopping and working again

Yesterday I got the dates for the refresher course I need to take before I can begin working for NTI. The course starts this Monday and finishes December 27th. I'm so excited and eager to be working again, even if it is for only a few months! After the tax season is over I'm hoping NTI has permanent positions to offer us seasonal employees, but we will see. They often have customer service positions open up as they establish more business contracts.

I did a bit more shoppping today and am about 99% finished. Woot! :) I just need a few more gift cards for those "hard to shop for" people on my list.

Steve's parents will be visiting next week for 5 days and we are really looking forward to seeing them again. Their visit will be shortened a couple days due to his dad having to have oral surgery next Monday, which is a little bit of a bummer, especially for him! :(

Have a great day!

Geneology

The last couple days I have been experimenting with ancestry.com by building my family tree. I'm having fun I might add! :)

After I typed in my name and information, my parents information, the names of both my maternal and paternal grandparents and my great grandmother's name I was stuck! I couldn't proceed on my own because I didn't know the birth dates or dates of death of my great grandparents nor did I know anything beyond what I had already added to my tree.

The wonderful thing I learned is ancestry.com uses the information I have put in about my family members and offers hints that may help me with the other family members that I don't have enough information about to move forward with my tree. There is a membership cost of $159 a year to look in to those handy hints, which I have not utilized, but seriously considering it! We will see. :)

Tuesday

Hope everybody had a nice Thanksgiving! :)

Saturday my aunt and I went to the Hara Arena Holiday Gift Show and had oodles of fun. They had over 300 vendors there and unfortunately we did not give ourselves enough time to see everything. That's okay!! We still had fun and got some Christmas shopping done. :)

I learned from my sister yesterday that my nephew might get expelled from school for 80 days!!! I'm so frustrated with him and his actions. I'm also frustrated at the school principal because he seems to be working against my nephew by wanting to expel him for that long. My nephew is 16 and very impulsive. He does way stupid shit without thinking about consequences. He got suspended 10 days for taking off two keys on a keyboard and switching them around. That fell under "destruction of school property". He also spit (spat?) over the stairwell from one floor to another floor and got ratted out by a girl who was grossed out by it! Ugh!!

Lately I have been having some pain in my upper back and shoulders along with some twitching in my neck. On a whim I asked my boyfriend to feel my neck for anything sticking out and he found a large soft lump along the incision where my neck was fused. Now that I know its there and it exist, I'm contributing every ailment to this lump on my neck. Is that called hypochondria? (sp?) Anyway, I will get an appointment made with my dr. soon to see what is growing on my body that shouldn't be growing on my body...

Happy Monday :)

Well, the weekend is over and it went by too fast! On Saturday my nursing assistant and I went to Jimmy's Cornerstone Bar in Dayton to listen to Terrapin Moon play! It was a late night, but that's okay because it was a good time! :) Yesterday I spent the day recuperating from the late night and played lazy all day. :)

I did some more Christmas shopping today. I went to Kohl's, JcPenney and Bath and Body works, my three most favorite places to shop. :) I also went to Lowes and Home Depot to price (and compare the costs of) kitchen cabinets. My bf wants to stain them and install them himself, but I'm going to try to talk him out of staining them and buying them all ready finished. We shall see....

While doing a google search on Saturday, I learned a friend of mine passed away in 2008 from a motorcycle wreck. I met him when I lived in the nursing home, probably in 1996 or 1997. We "met" through aol and chatted on the internet for awhile and eventually met in person. He lived in West Virginia and stopped in Ohio twice while traveling to Michigan. I was sad to read of his death. I had lost contact with him and was hoping to reconnect.

Caregiver woes!

Today my morning started off with a huge confrontation with my nurse! I thought I was about over it, but I'm not even close! I don't get over things quickly because I'm the type that needs to simmer down, so I'm really not surprised I'm still stewing. Unfortunately, I inherited my Mom's bad temper and inability to cool off quickly. Sorry Momma, but you know those are ugly traits to possess, right? :(

I have had this nurse for a few years and really like her for the most part, but sometimes I get too much of the f*#king drama that follows this person around! She is full of negative energy, bitches all the time, is all about herself and will play the victim role every chance she gets. All that said, she has been late for work everyday this week! That is what our argument was about. When she comes in late she doesn't apologize or offer an explanation as to why she's late and this is maddening to me. Being late is something I'm not ok with and I have never been ok with it. She all ready knows this though because we have played this game before. She didn't like what I had to say and I didn't like what she had to say! Hopefully we can work past what happened today. but only time will tell. I often overlook things because I'm in no position to address every detail, but I can't let people walk on me.

Sometimes being dependant on others is a big pill to swallow, but its rare! Even though I don't sound like it right now, I AM very grateful for each and every person that works for me! Today was an off day and those are normal from time to time!

Happy Birthday Daddy-O

Today my dad would have turned 75. Happy birthday dad...I love you and miss you tons! :)I miss calling you three times a day, miss pizza nights every Friday night, miss watching the Sopranos on Sunday and miss so much more! I'm greatful though for having the best dad ever and feel blessed by the relationship we had! :) Today is also my nephew's birthday. He is 6 today. Happy birthday Nolan!

I have been busy getting in to the holiday spirit by Christmas shopping both online and in the stores. I still have quite a bit to do, but have put quite a dent in it so far! There is a website I go to called bigcrumbs. This website is affiliated with hundreds of popular stores (Kohls, JcPenny, Aeropastale) and when you shop from these stores you get cash back on your purchases. I sign in to bigcrumbs.com first and from that website I click on an online store I want to shop from and every other month I get a check from the purchases I made.

I went to JCP.com (after bigcrumbs.com) and clicked on the outlet link and found oodles of clearance items for under 9.99. I bought shirts, blouses and a skirt for myself and avoided shipping costs because I had it delivered to the store! I was feeling depressed and mopey this week, but some online shopping instantly cured the blues. I believe that was the serotonin in the brain that was released after I shopped??? :)

Vet

Today I took Lady to the vet because her EXCESSIVE scratching has caused a large open sore on her back! She got two shots of steroids and antobiotics and two prescriptions of antobiotics and steroids that will last her a month! Ugh! I love my baby girl and will do whatever it takes to keep her healthy and happy, but she is a costly one. :( The doctor suggested laser therapy to cure the scratching which I have never heard of before. It will cost $40 a session and she would need 11 sessions....I got some literature on it and will decide what to do.

Yesterday I orientated a nursing assistant who will be doing some mornings for me. She seems nice, but having people start fresh makes me frickin mental. I think if everybody was as smart as myself the world would be better off...I'm Kidding!! I guess I'm saying this... I think I have common sense, I'd like to think so anyway. Well, when I have somebody working for me I want them to possess common sense, too! If they don't I find myself feeling frustrated easier and getting overwhelmed because I have to spell things out from A to Z and its exhausting! So...I hope it works out, but I have my doubts because of past experiences.

Tomorrow are the services and funeral for Bob. I am burning cds of the last gig Bob played in with his other band (Half Dead) so his friends and family can have a copy. Music and playing in a band was his life!!!

Alpaca fest

Today I went to Springfield to see an alpaca fest/competition. I didn't actually go for the "competition" part of it, but because I think they are beautiful animals and I thought it would be nice to learn more about these gentle creatures. :) My aunt went with us and bought a beautiful cape made out of alpaca fur, which was reversible, burgundy on one side/charcoal gray on the other. She really jewed the guy down in price, which is something I can't do because I'm a pushover and terrified of rejection. :)

Yesterday one of the band members of Skeleton Crew passed away. It was sudden, so it took us by surprise as he was only 47. He was the hippiest hippy I have ever met with his long hair, round specs, tye die t-shirts and converse tennis shoes he sported every time I saw him. :) R.I.P Bob...you will be missed! <3

Its been so long

I have not updated my blog for quite some time, have I? If anybody is still following my day to day updates which have turned in to a once a month update, thank you. If you aren't, well that is my own fault and shame on me....

Well, since my last update not a lot has happened. I did find myself getting attached to a adorable stray cat that found his way to my house. He was a sweet and dosile fur baby that was also very neglected by his owners and very ill!! I didn't realize how ill he was until the day after he found me. Long story short- After two vet appointments, an antibiotic shot for an ulcerated mouth sore, a steroid shot, $204.00 in vet bills nd my broken heart I made the decision to have him put to sleep because my vet said he looked to have feline leukemia. I was so sad for this precious kitty because he didn't have a fair life. I had him creaated and they spread his ashes in a prairie like area where other animals were creamated. Hopefully his after life (if there is one) will be filled with love and nurture instead of the former life he had, which was neglect and abuse!

I will be going back to work with the IRS in December. As you may know, this is the seasonal position I have worked since 2008. I really enjoy working here, but after the 2010 tax season I'll be seeking a position elsewhere that is permanent. I not only need it for monetary reasons, but its equally important for the mental stimulation and self worth I get from being employed year round. Besides, I can't continue to rescue sick animals if I'm only working 4 months out of the year! :)

Results

I called the doctor to get the results of my p.e.t scan today and everything is A-Ok! I am good to go until my next appointment, which is in December. Very relieving to say the least!

Last night I went to Scarlet & Gray Cafe in Columbus to watch Terrapin Moon play. Every Sunday this place has what they call "Grateful Dead End" (I think its called this) and they schedule Grateful Dead Tribute Bands to play for the evening. Last night was T-Moon and it was a good time! Maybe too good, though? I have spent a lot of time today thinking about last night and hoping I didn't say or do anything overly stupid!

I went and visited my aunt today and met her German Shephherd, Tiki. Tiki is a real sweetie and wanted to come home with me. :) She is a small German Shepherd and very timid. Not a great watch dog, but a great companion. :)

Pumpkin painting

On Saturday my brother's family came over for the evening and brought my sister in law's twin nieces with them. Having 4 kids under the age of eight over, certainly brings many smiles! My 8 yr. old nephew has the Justin Beiber hair thing going on, which fits him well. My 5 yr. old nephew is very passive and quiet and isn't bothered by anything. The 6 yr old twins are identical, but I honestly have no clue who is who. I call them both sweetie so I don't let it be known I can't tell them apart. :)

We started off the night by painting faces on pumpkins. I'm not sure what happened, but the paint on the faces didn't stick AT ALL! It was like colored water that just ran down the pumpkin fronts... :( Cheap paint? Too much water on the brushes? Regardless, it was a visual nightmare, but the kids didn't seem to mind. :)

After that we made quesadillas in the quesadilla maker, which were yummy! Lastly, us adults just yacked it up while the kids played the playstation and watched a movie. It was a good time!

MoeFest

Yesterday Steve, my aunt and I went to the Moefest Music Festival at Zane Shawnee Caverns, which is in Bellefontaine, the middle of nowhere. :) Skeleton Crew played from 5-7 and my aunt had not heard them play before so I was glad she could go. She seemed to have fun and enjoy the music. :) Next I want to get her to a Terrapin Moon gig because I think she would enjoy them, too. :)

Tomorrow morning I am having a routine P.E.T scan just to make sure the melanoma I had removed in April didn't do anything bizarre like spread somewhere else. I hate not being able to eat breakfast and not being able to drink my coffee in the morning, so I'm going to be unbearable in the morning. I know I need to just suck it up because its one time and it could be a lot worse!

During the scan tomorrow I can't wear anything with zippers or buttons because the machine might blow up or something, I don't know. Anyway, I was searching my wardrobe for pants that didn't have buttons or zippers and low and behold...all my sweats and wind pants have tiny little metal rings around the pull strings!! So, my boyfriend has graciously agreed to give up a pair of his pajama bottoms for my appointment tomorrow. I have a choice between Homer Simson or Stewie, which I love equally so decisions decisions! :)

Myspace

I have been going through some staffing changes here; therefore, I am in the midst of adding some nursing assistants to my case. Well, when I advertise through the odjfs website that I'm looking for nursing assistants my case manager automatically forwards the e-mail responses she receives. When I receive them, I then google their names to get the "inside scoop" on them through facebook, myspace or whatever social network site they might have a profile.

Well, I got a response from a nursing assistant today, who had a myspace page. I am amazed that people who are actively looking for employment are dumb enough to have a myspace page filled with trash talk and vulgarness. I immediately knew I didn't want this woman working for me! She had a terrible attitude! She told her life story, talked about the mistakes she has made in her life and how it's nobody's business, talked about how her bad attitude intimidates people, talked about her 3 beautiful children, the 3 beautiful baby's daddy who slept with the cousin's wife, she dropped F bombs every other sentence and then followed all that up with feeling blessed by God!!! OMG!

On the bright side, the girl that started today did a great job and picked up another day! Woot!

Visit was great!

Our tiny trip to Pennsylvania was nice! We brought the doggies to the park and I learned Buddy is a true blue lab and will go in the water. :) I have never had the occasion to get him near water before, but while at the park he was determined to get in the river by the park. I got a little nervous because he was so persistent, but otoh I'm glad he likes the water. He runs the other direction when we get the hose out to water flowers so I wasn't sure. It evidently has to be on his terms and nobody elses! :) Anyway...the weather was nice for the most part. We sat on a dock by the river and ate hoagies from Claymont Steak Shop. Hoagies from the east coast don't even compare to what we get here! There is so much meat on the hoagies I can't open my mouth wide enough to bite in to it! It's amazing and messy! :)

Tomorrow a new nursing assistant starts working for me. I hope she works out because I really like her. There are instances when I just get a good feeling about somebody and then there are those instances I'm not certain about somebody...well, I have a good feeling about her. :)

I am going to stand now and watch dancing with the stars. Good night!

Wedding Shower

Today I went to a wedding shower for one of my bestie's daughter, who is getting married October 16th. I only knew 4 people out of the 25 or more who were there and was a little uncomfortable because of it, but it was a good time. :)

Tomorrow we are going to PA. to visit Steve's dad. It's a 4 hour drive each way so we will only get to stay for a couple hours, but his dad loves our visits so much. Seeing the joy it brings to him is very much worth the long drive and short visit. :) We always bring the doggies with us and go to a park close by.

I will close now. Have a great weekend!

Weird kind of day

Today has been an off day and I'll be glad when its over! It seems like nothing is going smooth and when this happens I get disgruntled!

This morning I got an offer by e-mail to come back to work the 2010 tax season for the company I have worked for during the past two seasons. I had been waiting for this e-mail invite, so when I received it I wanted to get the ball rolling. I had to first fill out my I-9 form, which needed to be notarized. I went to the bank and got that done to realize my state id expired in October of 2009. I thought to myself OH F%*$ing wonderful! So, I went to the BMV across town! I got out of the van and realized they only take cash, which I didn't have. F%*K!! I went to the bank across the street and spent $22 to get $20 out (hate bank fees) and went back to bmv. Got there, got waited on immediately because it was empty and they asked for my ss# and birth certificate. Birth certificate???? I don't carry that around, WTH?? I asked her if I could please go ahead and get the photo taken, the card started and me bring the birth certificate back in 30 minutes. She said No, they would need the certificate first. I felt so mentally drained. I had a meltdown....

I came home and found my certificate, but didn't have time to go back today and get my id. I am honestly embarrassed though and don't want to return tomorrow!!

Hopefully I will get everything done tomorrow that I wanted to do today! Have a good night!

Happy Labor Day

Hope everybody is enjoying your Labor day! I have never known what the meaning behind Labor Day is, so I did a google search and here ya go...

History
Labor Day, the first Monday in September, is a creation of the labor movement and is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of American workers. It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity, and well-being of our country. The first Labor Day holiday was celebrated on Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City, in accordance with the plans of the Central Labor Union. The Central Labor Union held its second Labor Day holiday just a year later, on September 5, 1883. In 1884 the first Monday in September was selected as the holiday, as originally proposed, and the Central Labor Union urged similar organizations in other cities to follow the example of New York and celebrate a "workingmen's holiday" on that date. The idea spread with the growth of labor organizations, and in 1885 Labor Day was celebrated in many industrial centers of the country.

So, you're welcome! :) heehee. Anyway... Yesterday I spent the day with my friend Leslie and her little sister (through big brother/big sister) and had a good time. Her little sister is 8 yrs old and absolutely adorable. First, we went and had lunch at Applebees, which left a lot to be desired because the potatoes and side dishes were cold. Afterwards we took a quick trip in to Walmart to get a few things and then we came back to my house, sat outside, talked and entertained the dogs with sticks and a ball, which later got punctured by Lady's teeth, unfortunately. :( It was a pretty day to sit out and catch up on each others lives, though. :)

Both Steve's bands had gigs at Nelson Ledges yesterday, which were back to back. He was glad about both bands playing back to back in the same day because the music festival was a 3 day event and he really didn't feel like staying over and roughing it if the gigs were scheduled on different days. I'm surprised he didn't want to stay the whole weekend because Mickey Hart, one of the drummers from Grateful Dead, will be playing today. Anyway....

Have a great day and week!

Friday

Hello! Another week gone by already. :) Not a lot has happened this week, which could be a good thing, right? :) The music festival in Troy was a boat load of fun last Saturday and there were some really good bands that I would like to hear again. Besides Terrapin Moon, there was The Clark Manson Band, SOL, a girl who sang solo and a few more that I totally forget their names. Hmmmm? Anyway....

Yesterday my friend and I went to mutual friends of ours Kathi and Terry Zellers who have horses, dogs and oodles of kitties, one with only 3 legs...Thumper. :) Thumper was the little kitten that I had hoped to adopt awhile back. Thumper is growing like a weed and has totally earned the name Thumper! When he runs his back end thumps to the ground and its more obvious now that he is taller. :) Such a cootie petootie!

Sad night

I went to the music festival today and had a great time! When I got home though, I learned that Nugget, my betta fish, had passed away earlier in the day. Steve found him, but didn't want me to know until we got home. I am so sad over this! This little guy kept me company when I was on my computer because his tank sat right next to my monitor. When I would look over at him many times he would be looking right back at me. :) Now I look over and the only thing there is his betta food, blood worms, his antibiotics and a bottle of bettasafe we used to neutralize his water after tank cleanings. It's empty now, just like my heart!! :( Steve thinks I should good another betta, but my heart isn't agreeing right now.

Thursday

Well another week is all most behind us again. Before we know it we will be cooking Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas shopping and making resolutions for 2011. :( Anyway...

Monday we went to the Darke County Fair for the day. It was fun eating the fair junk food, watching people ride the rides/play the games and rolling around the colliseum shopping and talking to people. :) I went to the grocery store and the dentist today, which are two things I detest most in life. :) Thankfully, I don't have to go back to the dentist again for 6 months. Woot!

This weekend is the Miami Valley Music Fest in Troy, which I have been looking forward to all summer. Tomorrow night Skeleton Crew will play at 11:30 and Saturday afternoon (at 1:30) Terrapin Moon will play. I think they both have 1 hour slots. I have never heard of the other bands that are playing, so I don't know what kind of music they play.

Saturday, August 21, 2010

Highpoint Music Fest

Last night I went to the Highpoint Music Fest in Bellefontaine and listened to Terrapin Moon, Rumpke Mountain Boys and two other bands (I forget the names) play and had a lot of fun. The weather was perfect, which made it especially nice considering the event was held outside. :) One band was from Yellow Springs and played Reggae...I would like to listen to them play again.

Today and hopefully a lot this coming week I am organizing drawers, cabinets and closets so I can donate stuff to the Lupus Foundation/or throw it in the garbage. Its scary how fast junk gets accumulated and how much I throw away. :(

On Monday my nurse and I are going to the Darke County Fair barring no rain and thunderstorms. We try to go every year. My favorites at the fair are the waffles, funnel cakes and the animals. :)

Manic Monday

Hello, I'm back! I guess I haven't posted in a while, but that is probably because I didn't have much to share?? Not a lot is new... :)

This past weekend was busy with a music festival on Saturday night and a Richard Marx concert last night. The concert last night was to benefit Cystic Fibrosis, which is a lung disease that effects 30,000 children and young adults in the U.S. I learned last night that people are now living with the disease up to their 30's (age) where it used to be people passing away in their early 20's. So, progress has been made and hopefully in the upcoming years much more progress will be made until the disease is non existent. :) Unfortunately, my friend Leslie's son died at the age of 23 in 1998 from the disease.

The festival Saturday night was in College Corner and both Terrapin Moon and Skeleton Crew played late in the evening. It was a late night, but definitely a good time. :) This festival was a little different as there were a handful of people (both male and female) expressing their "right" to bare themselves to the world or at least to everybody at the festival. I guess if people are comfortable enough with themselves and their figures to let it hang out, good for them....I otoh am not that comfortable with myself and wouldn't even entertain (poor choice of words) the idea. :) There is a festival in Bellefontaine this Friday and one in Troy August 28 and that will be the end of the summer festivals I think.

Great week

Family leaves in the morning after a fun filled busy week. On Sunday we went to our friend's house so the kids could ride one of their horses, named Star. Thank you Kathy and Terry!! When we first got there the many barn kittens were the main attraction. After the kitties began to get boring, each one took their turn riding on Star as he walked around the yard with them. :) It was a good start to their week long visit.
On Monday I had plans to volunteer at a community living expo at the access center in Dayton. The kids also went and found little things to do to help out vendors. They were a big help as they handed out bottles of water, greeted visitors and help clean up. We ate lunch there and came home and had a quiet evening, besides the kids played dogopoly with Steve. On Thursday we went to Kings Island. This was probably the highlight of the visit. They swam, went down water slides, rode roller coasters, ate greasy pizza and rode more rides. :) It was fun! :)

Family comes today

Steve's Mom, nieces and nephew will be here today and staying until Friday morning. We don't have a lot planned, but will plan each day as it comes I guess. My friend invited us over tomorrow so the kids could ride horses, but its suppose to rain. So, we will see what happens. :)

The visit with the family this week has come at a good time. Things have not been easy around here for a number of reasons. We need family time to focus our attention on fun things....kids, games, watching movies, maybe the fair. After they leave next week, that is another story! Until then... :)

A couple weeks ago I posted about my bf's ghost white legs. I know it may have sounded mean, but I was joking... he knew I was joking. After I posted it I thought about what an ass I may have come across as when I wrote that post. Here I am making fun of his paleness, but I'm the one who had melanoma removed in April because I'm obsessed with having a sun kissed glow!!! So, on that note, thank you for not cussing me out and calling me names! :)

Happy Friday!!

Hello. Well another week has gone by and its Friday already. This summer seems to be going by very fast, unfortunately. Anyway, I won't wish it away. :-) Tomorrow night my nursing assistant and I are going to the Peace Thru Music Fest outside of Columbus to listen to skeleton Crew play. Hopefully the weather will be as beautiful as it is today. :-)

Lady, my border collie, went to the groomer's for the first time ever today. We decided to get her professionally groomed because of her constant scratching. She didn't have fleas, so I thought maybe she had a lot of dander, dry skin or maybe it was an allergic reaction to something. Well, we dropped her off around 10:00 this morning and picked her back up around 4:00 this afternoon. I was so excited to see her and even felt gitty on the way to pick her up because she has never been away for the day and I missed her. Well, when she got in the car and oh my god she was PISSED! She ignored everything we said and acted like she could take us or leave us. She was just a little snot! That's OK, though. She smelled good. :-) And she hasn't scratched since we brought her home.

I received a disturbing phone call yesterday. It was about this job I have been talking about. When I got home from Chicago I had a message on my answering machine about training. I called the next day and was scheduled for the next training class to start July 26 for two weeks. I was ecstatic. Well, the company supplies their own computers to the agents, which are very generic. They are called thin clients. I was told on the phone yesterday that these generic computers do not have downloading capabilities. This means I will not be able to install my keyboard software, which means I have no way to type and cannot do the job. It seems like this is such a tiny hurdle to jump over, but there is no way around it. Should I look at this as one door closing and another opening? Maybe, but it's hard to be optimistic at this point. I was told I would be contacted to do the IRS position again, which is nice to know that I have something lined up as far as employment...I really need a permanent position though.

Chicago was great

My trip to Chicago is over and I had a great time! We attended the abilities expo most of the day on Friday and Saturday, but spent time afterward exploring Chicago. One evening we went to Rain Forest Cafe, which was so cool. We were seated right next to the aquarium. It was hard not to be mesmerized by the hundreds of colorful fish in the crystal clear water. It was beautiful. The food was great, too. :) The next evening we drove to Navy Pier. It was neat watching the boats go by, seeing the boats docked at the pier, seeing the ferris wheel lit up at night, listening to the spanish band...so different than what we see in Ohio! :) On Sunday we took a tour of Willis Tower and went to the Sky Deck. Good time and had fun looking down, but I could have done without the 60 second elevator rides to the top of the tower and then down again when we were finished....:) Saturday night My nurse and I found ourselves in a huge mall by accident when it started pouring down rain and we went in to Nordstrom's to seek shelter. While pretending to shop we noticed Nordstroms was just one store of many! Unfortunately, they were stores that were way out of our price range, not like Old Navy, Aeropostale or Kohl's. :( While walking to Willis Tower we came across many streets that were blocked because Transformers 3 was being filmed. We saw the bumble bee car (correct?) and another transformer car that is in the movie, which I knew nothing about. My nurse filled my head with the transformer movie stuff because she has taken her daughter to see the movies. :)
Anyway...my trip to Chicago was a great experience!

Orientation

Well, I'm happy to say the 5 day orientation is over and I passed both assessments. I really would have dreaded it if I had to update my blog and tell you I failed and couldn't move on to the next phase! Anyway..I'm glad it didn't work out that way! :)

The job I applied for was cell phone billing agent and the training was going to start September 20th and last for 5 weeks. I got an e-mail today, though inviting me to start training this Monday for a different job and the hours are 9:00 a.m - 6:00 pm for only two weeks. This is for DSL support. I told the trainer I would do that, but I'm waiting to hear back from her through e-mail with answers to some questions I have.

Tomorrow afternoon I leave for my little trip. I'm just about all packed minus a few things I can't pack until tomorrow after I'm finished using them.

I went to the doctor today to get some antibiotics for a urinary tract infection I seem to have AGAIN. Well, before the doctor came in I was talking to my boyfriend, who finally broke out his shorts today. When I was talking to him I was seriously distracted by this irredescent glow that was radiating from his casperly pale skin. I'm SERIOUS! His legs were like glowing. I told him he needed a little color to those legs ASAP as it was hurting my eyes. He agreed and came home and threw the frisbee to Lady outside in the sun. :) I wasn't trying to be cruel, I guess it just comes natural? :( Anyway...hopefully he doesn't burn.

Happy July 4th

Today is July 4th and I'm spending it alone. I'm not complaining though because I value my "me" time. It's rare that I get alone time, so when I do, YAY! :) My boyfriend has been at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park for Grateful Fest since Thursday and returns tomorrow. Terrapin Moon was scheduled to play Thursday night and again tonight (Monday morning actually) from 3am-5am. The weather has been absolutely perfect for camping so I'm sure the guys are having a good time, although may smell a little ripe after roughing it for 4 days. Ewwww.. :)
Yesterday I spent the day with my friend Leslie. We went to her husband's family's place to watch the parade, have a cook out and watch the fire works. It was a great time with a very nice family! :)
I passed my first assessment Friday and take the final one Tuesday. I hope its not all for not. The reason I say that is because the company will be supplying the phones, headsets and "thin clients" (computer) and I don't know if this is equipment that can be adapted for me. I e-mailed somebody from the recruiting department and asked, but did not get a reply. I guess I'm concerned I won't be allowed to install my adaptive software on their thin client or I won't be allowed to have the phone modified so I can answer it independently. Hopefully this worry I'm feeling is unnecessary.

RIP Aunt Jo

Second day of orientation went well, tomorrow is the first test and I'm going to study hard tonight. I was really distracted during training today as my mind was focused on my aunt in Florida.
While on facebook last night I read my cousin's post about her mother. She said something along the lines of...today was a kicker, the straw that broke the camel's back. My mother shot herself by accident and is dead. I will miss her....I was not sure if it was literally her mother or maybe a mother in law or somebody who was a mother figure she was referring to. I began to panic a little. My other cousin and aunt were also on facebook leaving comments to please call them and elaborate. Well, after mass confusion and frustration with the lack of information, I was told last night my aunt did shoot herself while cleaning a gun, but that story changed today. My aunt took her own life after a break up with her boyfriend of two years. Wow! I had no idea she was capable of it! I would be lieing if I said suicide had never crossed my mind. It has many times. I thought about it before my accident and after my accident. I'm glad I never acted on those tendencies because I love my life and value each and every inkling of it. The saying "Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem" speaks volumes and I wished my aunt could have worked through her heart break and sought medical intervention for her depression. I hope she didn't leave the world thinking that she wasn't loved.

Tuesday

Today I spent some time outside with my dogs because the weather is absolutely beautiful. I felt a little bad for my dog buddy because he has to go out on a leash and get hooked up so he doesn't run off. He always runs off to visit the neighbor dogs and doesn't come back when we call for him. The only way to prevent this is to hook him up to his leash, unfortunately. It probably bothers me more than it does him, but I don't know. Lady seems to gloat when he is on a leash and she has free rein of the yard. She runs past him really fast with a big stick in her mouth as if she is bragging and rubbing it in. :-) I was thinking today if my dogs were human children, Buddy would be my son who always is in trouble, getting detentions, getting suspended and making me crazy. Lady on the other hand would be my daughter who gets straight A's, never does anything wrong and doesn't talk back! Hehe! :-)

I started the 5 day orientation yesterday and so far so good. Hopefully I pass the two tests and move on to the next phase. :)

Its Friday

My trip to Chicago is quickly approaching, but things aren't going quite as planned. When I called to reserve amtrak tickets for Stephanie and I, they didn't have a seat available for an attendant, just one space for a wheelchair. So, because I have no intentions of going solo, the amtrak trip will have to wait and we will catch a ride with Steve to Chicago instead of meeting him there. :)

Today I went to a disability and healthy relationships meeting. The speaker, who has a disability herself, was a hoot to listen to. I think the talk of sex and intimacy in a room full of people is rather uncomfortable, but she was so funny to listen to that she made it easier for some people to participate in the conversation. She also talked about caregivers, abuse, disability myths, etc. Anyway, it was interesting.

On Wednesday (June 30) I start the 5 day orientation for the support position I applied for. We take two tests during the orientation and if I pass both tests I will move on to do the background check and drug test....keep your fingers crossed! :)

Happy Belated Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the dad's out there and especially to my dad whom I miss very much! We were very fortunate because we spent many Father's Days together and I'm grateful for each and every one we shared together. :) RIP dad!

My car accident fell on Father's Day in 1992. The date was June 21st, which is todays date. I have been a quadriplegic for 18 years and I can't believe how fast 18 years goes by. Its scary!! The date of my accident used to bother me a bit, but not anymore. Its just another day, but one I give a little more thought to...first day of summer, longest day of year, the date of my accident. :) Last year I composed a letter to the man who was driving the van that collided with my truck. For some reason I wanted him to know how well I was doing and how much I loved my life and how I wasn't angry with him. When I put it in the mail I knew there was no turning back and I felt nervous because I had no idea how he would feel getting a letter from me.

A couple weeks later he wrote me back the kindest letter and said he was glad to hear from me. :) He said his biggest regret after the accident was following his lawyers advice and not sending me a card or getting in touch with my family to check on my progress. Anyway.... :)

Interview

Yesterday I had a telephone interview with the same company I have worked with for the past two tax seasons, but for a different position. The position I applied for is customer support. The interview went well and the next step is to complete a one week orientation/class on the computer. If (after) I successfully complete that and become certified I will need to take a drug test and get a background check. After the comes back clean and clear I will sign up for a 5-week training course in August. So, wish me luck!! :)

My chicago trip is approaching quickly and I'm getting excited. On Monday we got our instructions on what information we need to collect from vendors and which work shops we have to attend, etc. It looks like we will have spare time in the afternoons and evenings to do our own thing. I still have 3 weeks before I leave, but I'm all ready packing a little bit here and there. :)

ClassicFest

Saturday we drove to Cleveland to attend Classicfest at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park, which Terrapin Moon was scheduled to play at around 11:00 in the evening. Before them, there were classic rock tribute bands for Pink Floyd, Rush, Beatles and Ozzy Ozbourne. They all sounded great and we had a lot of fun! :) There was also a laser light show in the end, which was cool to watch, especially in the trees.

I met Thumper I-lean, the special needs kitten I want to adopt and call my own!!! OMG this kitty is so adorable and energetic I don't think he/she knows its missing a leg! He/She (still unsure of gender) is a bundle of energy! Unfortunately, I have decided bringing the kitten here is not a good idea. The kitten would need to be separated from my dogs (secluded by itself) at first and be gradually introduced over time. That isn't fair to the kitten. That baby has been through enough, I can't inflict any more stress on him. The owners said they will go ahead and keep it then and I can come visit him/her anytime. :)

Another weekend gone by

Wow, this past week has flown by! As some of you may have read on facebook, this week I was (and continue to be) consumed by a little precious kitten I have the opportunity to make a home for here! This little furry cuddle bug was stepped on by a horse (ouchie) and it did a lot of damage to his back side; therefore, one of his back legs needed to be amputated. :( I'm having a terrible time trying to talk my bf in to it..he is not budging at all! This might be a battle I don't win. I am doing research on the internet on how to introduce a new kitten to a home that has a dog, or two dogs in my case, so I am confident it can work. I'm not worried about Lady, its Buddy that concerns me. He is territorial and won't adjust as easy as Lady. As I type this, I am questioning myself. Am I being rational by wanting to adopt this kitty? Is it fair to my bf? my dogs? my caregivers? I have talked to each of my caregivers and they say they don't mind helping with the litter box. Are they just saying that though? Hmmmmm....I do plan to meet the cuddle bug Tuesday and I will do an update here. :)

What else? My friend's daughter is pregnant and getting induced tomorrow. Friend, if you read this, know I'm thinking of you and your daughter and I will be patiently waiting for your e-mail saying the baby has arrived! :)

Steve had a gig in Columbus Friday and it was a good time. He played with Skeleton Crew and the other band that played was The Bug Hounds. The keyboarder, Bill Kurzenburger, had his cd released that night so it was a party to celebrate his success. :) The door man said I wasn't allowed to drink because I didn't have my ID with me, but I snuck a beer in when he wasn't looking. Just one, that's all. :)

Happy Memorial Day

First, a thank you to all the soldiers who (and who have) put their lives on the line for our country and continue to do so regardless of the unsteady and volatile nature it is in. Happy Memorial Day!

Family is still here, but they are leaving tomorrow to go back home to Delaware. The visit went fast just like it does every time they come, but I think they are visiting again in July. Steve's Mom and I took a trip to Springhill nursery on Saturday, but didn't buy any flowers because we had all ready bought what we wanted at Walmart. :) They helped Steve paint the outside of the Florida room this weekend as well as helped hang my barn star on the front of the house by drilling a hole in the mortar. Thank you guys! :)

I lost sleep last night worrying about the skin graft on my cheek! It seems ripply and not smooth like skin should be. I am hoping its just healing and this is normal. I am going to do a google search on the care of skin grafts and what to expect afterwards when I get home tonight. :/

Well, I am going to get ready to go now! Have a great day!

Company

Steve's Mom and Dad arrived yesterday evening and will be here until after Memorial Day weekend. I'm not sure what all we will be doing while they are visiting, other than a cook out at our friend's house, but we will play it by ear each day like we normally do. :)

They both worked hard in the flower beds by pulling weeds, trimming back the bushes and lambs ear, planting grasses and laying mulch most of the day until the rain and hail forced them back inside. They like to keep busy, thats for sure and I'm definitely not complaining. :)

I learned today that HB 55 for animal cruelty passed in to legislation, which means cruelty to animals is no longer a misdemeanor in Ohio. I was glad to read this on facebook because cruelty to animals disgusts me to no end and I cannot fathom how or why anybody in their right mind could harm an animal. Most animals are innocent, love unconditional and have no voice. I do have my doubts that it will minimize the cruelty to animals in Ohio, though. I hope I'm wrong!

Weekend is about over

Last night we went to J-Alan's and listened to the band, which was an interesting evening. It was a good time for the most part, just interesting. There was one individual (very nice btw) who consumed a little too much alcohol and was really annoying the hell out of my friend and I. He probably didn't realize how annoying he was though, because he had consumed too much alcohol. Make sense? I guesss these things happen, but it certainly makes the night less enjoyable. We thought that avoiding eye contact with him would deter him from continuously coming over, but it didn't. He was like a turd that won't flush, kept coming back. Ugh! Anyway... :)

Today was such a perfect day weather wise. I took my babies outside for an hour and we just sat in the drive way absorbing the sun shine and feeling the breeze. Buddy and I were entertained for a while watching Lady play with a tree branch. She always grabs the sticks that are quadruple her size in length and then she gets angry and vicious sounding when she can't maneuver it or it drags on the ground. :(

I go for another follow up appointment with the surgeon tomorrow. I cancelled last Wednesday as I wasn't feeling the love of going in the nasty weather, cold and damp, sitting in the waiting room with all the other people who shared my same 1:45 appointment slot. Cancelling and staying home seemed like the right thing to do at the time. :)

Weekend is here

This Saturday I'm going to J-Alans to listen to Steve play with the band Skeleton Crew. He has only been in this band a short time so I have only heard him perform with them once, but their music is similar to the other band he is in, Terrapin Moon. Terrapin Moon is a Grateful Dead Tribute Band so they rarely play something other than what the dead did, but Skeleton Crew does do other songs by other bands. (Bob Marley, Bob Dylan, etc.)

I'm getting eager for my trip to Chicago. My nurse and I are pretty sure we are taking the amtrak out of Cincinatti the night before we have to attend the abilities expo, but we just have to make sure that when we get to Chicago we understand how to take the bus and train to the hotel which is 26 miles away. We will have some "walking" to do in between bus routes and we also want to find out what kind of neighborhood we will be in. :)

Family is visiting this week. Steve's parents are coming out Wednesday and will be here through Tuesday. I'm not sure what is on the agenda, but one day we hope to make a trip to Springhill Nursery in Tipp City.

I guess that is all for now. Have a great weekend! Hopefully this weather gets nice soon. Yesterday was a beautiful day, but we need more days filled with sunshine and warmth!

Chair IS fixed

I failed to mention in my last post that my wheelchair did get fixed Tuesday!!! It ended up being a wire problem and if it happens again, they will replace it with a new one. So, I'm happy to have my "get up and go" working again! :) Thank you to those who asked about it!

My friend Leslie called me today very upset. She made the heart wrenching decision to have her 16 year old doggy put to sleep. She is going to the vet this evening at 7:30 to have it done, but she is hoping that CiCi (doggy's name) will go on her own at home before then. I can't imagine my life without my babies because my god they bring me so much happiness and they always make me smile, but when I think about the time when I may have to make the same decision Leslie made, it makes me sad! I don't dwell on that day because that is a very long time down the road (at least I think it is) but its still sad to think about.

As I have mentioned I have a couple new nursing assistants and it seems to be working out well. I have been training a new girl this week and I have to admit, its exhausting!! Its hard to teach someone how to do my routine, show her where everything is, explain how to make coffee, explain the remote controls, explain the hoyer lift, explain which buttons to push on my wheelchair to operate this and that when I cannot freaking point!!! I have a feeling in my sleep I will be saying... up, up, up, okay, now left, not your left, my left, okay good, now my right, no not that right, my other right.....

Vets office

Today I had to take Lady to the vet because the poor baby is itching like crazy! I also took Buddy because I'm a sucker and didn't want to take Lady Bye Bye and not him!!! I know, I'm too soft. It did work out in my favor though!

Anyway, the doctor ended up prescribing benadryl to ease her scratching and while she was there, she caught Lady up on her distemper shot, took a blood test for heartworm and sold me a years worth of heartworm medication. That meant Lady was caught up for a year. I told the doctor I was going to take Buddy to their vaccination clinic (there is no charge for the visit, just the vaccine) tomorrow evening and asked if the receptionist would tell me what he needs and she said, "yes". She then told me if I was going to the clinic to save the money for the visit, that she would waive his fee and do his shots and blood test while we were there! I agreed, thanked her a dozen times and got Buddy caught up, too! I spent $253.00, but they are good to go for a year! Woohoo!

Productive day

As I said in my last post my chair is on the fritz and not driveable. As much as it frustrates me being stuck in one place and not able to move around independently, it has sort of played in my favor today. I have gotten so much done today, it excites me! I have figured out the quarterly taxes, gotten paper work finished, completed tasks on my "to do" list, cleaned around my desk and made phone calls I needed to make. Yay! :)

Wheelchair guy is coming tomorrow to hopefully fix my chair. I hope he is able to fix it tomorrow, but he may need to order a part. We will see... :) I have had this chair for a year... isn't it too soon for malfunctions? Geez!

I booked our room for Chicago and am getting excited about going. Its still 2 months away, but something to look forward to. My nurse and I were thinking about taking the amtrak train from Cincinatti and meeting Steve there, but we have to see what they do about people in wheelchairs. Would I have to transfer to a regular seat? If so, where does my wheelchair go? etc...

Happy Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the ladies in my life who are Mommies!!! I hope you all have a beautiful day! My mom isn't with me anymore, but I'd like to think that some how some way she knows I'm thinking of her and she is heavy on my heart today! :)

Its been somewhat of a frustrating weekend as my wheelchair is on the fritz. I keep getting an error message on the control box each time I try to use the chin control! So everytime I want to move from one room to another, I am at the mercy of someone else!! Grrr! This chair is heavy enough by itself let alone having to push it WITH me in it! I am calling ATG rehab tomorrow to see if somebody can come fix it. Wish me luck! :)

I got some stitches out and two bandages off Friday. These were from the two areas he put the grafted skin. I wished I could say I'm happy with it, but its too early for that. Right now both areas look like road rash, that is the only way to describe them. I still have stitches around both ears, my jaw and chest, which will all hopefully come out Wednesday.

I went to my nephews tee ball and j ball games Thursday and had so much fun! I wore a perpetual smile watching them and all the other little dumplings play. The little ones on my younger nephew's team weren't quite as "coordinated" and not as "in to" the sport as my older nephew's team. They were climbing the fence, not listening to the coach, looking up at the sky, swinging there arms, worried about snacks... it was comical! :) Stephanie, my brother's wife e-mailed me the schedule for their games, so I will be attending more!!

Cinco De Mayo

Hi, Happy Hump Day and Happy Cinco De Mayo ! :)

My girly friend called me yesterday with an awesome request! She asked if Steve and I could drive to Chicago in July and spend a couple days at the abilities expo for her and her boyfriend. Her and her boyfriend run the Dayton chapter of the Independent Living Centers in Ohio and don't have the time to travel because of their busy work schedules.

She said she wants us to gather information, get ideas, talk to the vendors and meet people she has contacts with regarding how she can make the Dayton abilities expo more successful than it has been in the past.

I have never been to Chicago and it is on my "bucket list"....of course I said, "yes" :)

I feel MUCH better!

Today I got the huge bulky "helmet like" bandage off from around my head, so was able to get a hair wash and I feel like a new person! The doctor said not to wash my hair, but that wasn't going to happen. I have oily hair and need a good shampoo every day, so after 5 days, it was DEFINITELY time!! :) I go back Friday to get more bandages removed and I guess the stitches will come out next week. Yay!
Have a great day!

I feel a wine coming on!

The liquid/blended diet is getting old! I'm hungry and want real food! V8 juice, mashed potatoes, pudding and jello can only suppress my appetite for so long! My head still hasn't been scrubbed because I haven't been able to convince anybody that taking the guaze off around my head and shampooing my filthy hair and scalp is the right thing to do.

I did watch a great movie last night. I recommend "The blind side" to anybody who wants to watch a good movie. Not many movies capture my attention through the entire movie, but this one did! Sandra Bullock was funny and so was the little boy who played S.J...he was adorable!

I wanted to go to the benefit for Masterpiece last night at the Middletown Sportsman Club, but opted not to for reasons mentioned above. It was a quarter auction and the proceeds went to the Ohio SPCA. I hope there was a good turn out for the event!!

Okay, I'm going to go puree something and take another nap!

I'm home

Surgery was Thursday and I'm glad its over. :) Dr. Percy wouldn't let me go home afterwards because I was running a fever, so I stayed over one night. That definitely wasn't my preference, but it wasn't too dreadful, as the nurses and aides were very nice and accomodating.

Before surgery the anesthesiologist had a terrible time starting an I.V because my veins are so hard to find. I have never been an easy stick for blood draws and IVs, so it wasn't a huge surprise. He stuck me in both my arms, hands, ankles, my jugular and finally struck gold in my groin. (I know that didn't sound right, but I'm too lazy to change it). Maybe next time I should suggest starting in the groin? I take that back.. there won't be a next time!!

Dr. Percy removed skin and tissue from the two areas that had melanoma (my temple region and right cheek) and then took skin from behind both my ears and grafted that skin where he removed the melanoma. Hopefully when the bandages are off and the stitches are out I will be happy with the results despite the scarring it will leave on my face and neck. I'm not one to have liquid foundation put on me, but that could possibly change very soon!!

I think the worst thing right now is the copious amount of guaze around my head! It looks like I'm wearing a football helmet. The guaze got caught on my chin control yesterday, which sent me flying in to my desk, knocking over speakers, upsetting Nugget's tank, and knocking the desk in to the wall. Nugget wasn't none to happy....his fins were flared as he was flipping around the tank through all the bubbles, gravel and debris that was shuffled caused by the excessive and unnecessary amount of guaze I'm lugging around on my head. I have not gotten my hair shampooed since early Thursday morning and I'm going bonkers! I'm sure the oil from my hair will be seeping through the guaze soon if it hasn't all ready! My head feels disgusting!

Anyway...I'm going to take a nap!

Shallow

I know the ending of my vanity post was shallow and I need to elaborate. The tanning bed and the sun worshipping that I should not continue to do is not the reason I wished I didn't get the areas removed and biopsied...sometimes it just seems like the less we know the better. Many people, my father for one, do not see doctors because they don't want to know if something is wrong or are afraid of finding out something is wrong. I see that as being somewhat rational and I completely share that mind set. Maybe that is why I think its rational? :) When my dad did finally start to see a physician regularly and did his yearly exams, there was always something found that caused concern, looked abnormal, needed more testing, needed biopsied and whatever else. The scare that is instilled in a person every time they see a doctor is enough to say "I'm finished with doctors"

Luckily I haven't reached that point. Now that a couple days have passed I am ready to take the bull by the horns and get this shit over with. This week I will have the surgery and be optimistic everything will be fine. I'm dreading it, but doesn't everybody? :)

I will post after I'm home. Thank you for reading!

Vanity

I have always been a vane (sp?) person. When I was younger I wouldn't leave the house without makeup, my hair would always have to be curled in case I ran in to somebody I knew, my clothes couldn't be left over from the night before, bla bla bla. You get the picture, right? :) Well, 18 years later I'm as vane now as I was then. Having a big electric wheelchair attached to me hasn't changed the way I want to look and want others to see on the outside.
I decided about a month ago I wanted to get two lesions removed from my face because I didn't like the way they made me look. I wasn't concerned really, just wanted them gone. I went to my doctor, she referred me to a surgeon, and two weeks after that I was having out patient surgery to have 3 areas removed. The surgeon found another tiny one tucked up under my bangs in my temporal region.
What I thought would be a simple procedure and quick recovery, was quite the contrary. I was on a liquid diet for 5 days, half my face was bandaged up like I had been cut from my head to my neck, I now have a 2" scar on the side of my face, and another 1" scar on my temple. All of that because I wanted 2 eraser sized lesions removed because I'm vane!! After the fact I said, "I will never electively put myself through that mess again"
So, after a week of going to the office for follow up appointments, this past Friday I went to have the last bandage removed, get the last of my stitches removed and be done with the doctor visits and the trips to Kettering.
Well, unfortunately that didn't happen. When I got in his office, he took the bandage off and sat down. He opened his chart and said two of those lesions were melanoma and I have to have another surgery to remove surrounding tissue and get a skin graft. I was stunned. It's like I heard him talking, but I didn't hear a word he said because my thoughts were going rampid to say the least.
Am I fortunate I went to have the areas removed? Or am I unfortunate I went to have the areas removed? If I would have left it alone and not had them looked at, I would never know and I could go on with life and continue my life style of laying in the tanning bed and enjoying the sun. Now, that I do know, I would be an idiot to continue to enjoy those things and not deal with the here and now!
I'm hating life right now!

So much for being rational

If you read my previous post you know I was having caregiving woes last week and wasn't sure how I was going to proceed. Well, I am not exactly proud of how I handled it, but its done with and hopefully the new nursing assistants I hired will work out wonderfully! :)

I hadn't had intentions on firing this person, but after she reacted so terribly when I told her we could not have a repeat of her actions the prior week and she went coo coo on me, I realized I wasn't dealing with a "full deck" if ya know what I'm saying! Soooo, good luck to her and hopefully she gets the help she needs! Buh-bye!

Have a great night!

Dependency sucks at times!

I am not one to dwell on the fact I'm a quadriplegic and need to depend on others, but at times the dependency takes its toll. First off, I have a handful of paid nurses and nursing assistants who come in everyday and help me with the things I need. These people are like my family. They have been with me for a long time and for the most part we get along great and things couldn't be better!

This week has been a different story, though! I've had a person call off their shift twice this week, which were all day shifts and could not be fully covered by somebody else because of the manner it happened. I know things happen, people get sick, kids get sick, people over sleep, cars break down, etc, but on the other hand, there are things that aren't okay and I'm not sure how to proceed on these scenarios. I've been going back and forth in my head what I need and want to do, but at times my frustration at situations like this can cause me to be irrational and in turn clouds my judgment.

I will say that I am fortunate to have a great group of peeps working for me and the incidents this week are few and far between, thank goodness! :)

Easter Egg Hunt 2

Yesterday was the easter egg hunt with the kiddies and it was so much fun! We started the evening off by having the kids find the easter eggs we had hidden earlier that day. We hid 66 plastic eggs around the yard, which they found mostly on their own, minus the couple times we dropped subtle hints and played the hot/cold game, which wasn't exactly helpful to 5 year olds who didn't understand "you're really warm" or "oh wow, you are freezing cold now" :)

After that we went inside and the kids opened their eggs to see what was inside. They found stickers, tattoos, money, candy and some eggs had a couple dog treats tucked inside so Buddy and Lady could reap the benefits, too. :) I think they preferred seeing stickers over the dog treats, but they handled it well. :)

We then went back outside to fly finger kites before it got dark. It was windy, so a perfect evening to fly them. It was comical watching them run around the yard dodging each other and dodging Lady because she was chasing them and their kites. :) She got her exercise that night!

After kite flying we went inside and ate cup cake ice cream cones and dyed easter eggs before our night ended.

Easter Egg Hunt

Tomorrow I'm having family and friends over to color easter eggs and have an easter egg hunt outside....it will be my brother, his wife, my nephews, my brother's twins nieces on his wife's side, my nursing assistant and her son. I'm hoping my older niece and nephew will come for awhile, too. Hopefully the kids will have fun!

Today my nursing assistant and I took the dogs to the park and it was like nailing jello to the wall. They were not behaving! Buddy ran out of the van before we could get his leash on, Lady followed suit, dumped in the grass and we didn't have paper towels or a bag, they were both pulling hard on their leashes to get to another dog, my N.A and I had a small misunderstanding and on the way out the other dog came up to the door as we were loading up and Buddy jumped out and they got in to it. NOT a good day at the park, unfortunately.

Have a great evening!

More about myself

Those who know me know what a huge animal lover I am. As I have already mentioned I have two dogs, but if I had the room, the money and the means I would have many more! Its not just dogs I go ga ga over, its any animal. That is one of the many things I miss now that I'm a quadriplegic. I miss holding and petting the wonderful furry friends in my life!
Because of my passion for animals, when I hear stories of animal abuse, I really take it to heart. I cannot understand why or how any human being in there right mind would intentionally hurt an animal. Animals are so innocent.
The latest story of animal abuse that has me consumed and obsessing over is the brutal beating and killing of the 3 month old baby alpaca here in Ohio, named Masterpiece. Three people (I'm sorry, I mean sick monsters) are being charged. Two teen boys who are 17 and a 22 year old who is mother of a 2 yr old and a wife who's husband is in the military and deployed. (Newspaper stated) Hmmmmm....her husband is serving our country while she is taking part in killing an innocent baby alpaca with two 17 yr olds boys and god only knows where her child was while she was doing this!!
I heard the boys are being kept locked up behind bars because of death threats. I have no sympathy. They also could be charged as adults, which is what I hope happens. Today they went to court and were ordered to get psych evaluations and will go back to court again May 7. I'm so not happy about that!
My bf and I really don't see eye to eye on this at all. He thinks I'm too involved (ok, obsessed) emotionally and need to let it go. He says the legal system will deal with it in a just way and the media should step aside. I feel the opposite. I think the more people who express there anger and anguish over these assholes disgusting actions, the better!
Okay, on that note please go to the website link on my blog and vote for house bill 55. HB55 is to stiffen up animal cruelty laws in Ohio. Right now animal cruelty in Ohio (for house pets) is a misdemeanor. If you go to the link called Masterpiece, the baby alpaca, you can vote for house bill 55 there and read the devastating story about Masterpiece.

A little about myself

In 1992 (on June 21) I was in a car wreck that left me a quadriplegic from the neck down. I was 22 years old.

After the wreck I spent 3 months at a hospital in Dayton. Six weeks of that time was in the rehab unit where I received vigorous physical therapy and occupational therapy to help me work with the parts of my body I didn't lose function of. For me it was operating a computer with shoulder shrugs and turning pages of a book with a stick in my mouth, etc.

After the hospital stay I went to live in a nursing home in Springfield. That was the closest nursing home that accepted patients on ventilaters. I was there from 1992-2002, just under 10 years. I don't recommend anybody go live in a nursing home unless they have exhausted all other options, but it wasn't all bad. I met some wonderful people there, some whom I have remained very close to!!! :)

Since then I have had surgery to have a diaphragmatic pacer implanted so I can breathe with that instead of a ventilater and have had my trache removed. :)

I get up in my wheelchair everyday and get range of motion to my arms, hands and fingers as well. Every evening I get transferred to a standing frame which allows me to stand in an upright position while stretching my ankles, back and legs which is beneficial for oodles of reasons. I try to stand for two hours while I watch tv or a movie.

Well, that is all for now. Have a great night!

Intro

Hi, my name is Cynthia. I usually go by Cindy, but either works for me. :)

I live in Ohio and have lived here all my life. I live with my boyfriend, Steve and we have been together for around 9 years. He moved to Ohio from Delaware in 2002. We don't have children, but we do have two dogs, Buddy and Lady who are like our children and we love them unconditionally! Buddy (our alpha dog) is a 7 yr. old black lab and Lady is a 4 yr. old border collie. I also have a betta fish named Nugget who keeps me company while I'm on my computer. :)

I have a twin sister (no, we don't know what one another are thinking and feeling) and a brother who is 8 years younger than my twin and I. My sister has two children, my niece who is 17 and my nephew who is 15. My brother has two sons, my nephews, who are 7 and 5. I love spending time with my Niece and Nephews...they bring fun and entertainment when they are around.

Steve has one sister and one brother, both who live on the east coast. Steve's sister has 4 children who range from ages 12, 11, 10 and 8. The kids come to Ohio every summer with Steve's Mom and its always nice to visit with them. :) We wished they lived closer so we could spend more time with them, but Steve does get to Delaware once or twice a year to visit, also.

Well, I will end here. I will be back in the next couple days to write more.
